DIY Skin Scrub

I'm addicted to skin care products. I love lotions, I love creams, I love scrubs...I love skin care. That is not a cheap addiction...especially since I like quality products.

I know making your own isn't anything new or earth shattering, but for me...it is.

My first attempt at a body scrub was so so. It didn't blow me away and I didn't love it. It did not give me the results I was hoping for....never mind the mess the coffee granules made in my shower.

Yes...it has taken me this long to try it again. This time, though, I wanted to try a face scrub too.

I did lots of reading on the internet and realized you only need 2 products...a scrub and a oil....the rest is optional.

So I made my own face scrub first...which, by the way...I LOVE!! My face feels amazing!!

I did equal parts sugar and olive oil...

I had some peppermint essential oil, so I added a few drops of that. I've read you could leave out the essential oil, you could add vanilla extract, or lemon juice...I guess as long it's okay for your skin, give 'er.

Mix it up and eat it.

Kidding. Don't eat it. You might want to because the peppermint smells amazing!! The best thing is that if you accidentally get some in your mouth...it's all good....it's actually better than good....it's dessert!

Rinse your face with warm water and scrub it gently on your face for a minute or so. Rinse with warm water and use your regular cleaning products and lotions.

Soft soft skin!

I only make a small amount at a time and keep it in a sealed container in my bathroom.

Now for the body scrub.

I didn't do any step by step pictures, but it's pretty easy.

I used sea salt because I didn't need the gentleness of sugar. You could also use epsom salts.

Again...equal parts exfoliator and oil. I used baby oil because I was being cheap but I notice a huge difference between my face scrub and my body one that next time I'm for sure going with olive oil for my body.

I added vanilla for scent and coconut milk because coconut is wonderful and I love it...and good for your skin.

This one smells so good and I want to eat it too, but I'm pretty sure the salt wouldn't taste as good.

I mix a bunch at a time and keep the extras in my Body Shop containers in the fridge.

Let me know if you try it....or if you make your own.

This sounds great! I made a scrub for the first time this past Christmas...and I REALLY enjoyed using the leftovers! I've been meaning to make some more. Thanks for sharing your recipes : ) I did a ground oatmeal/sugar/olive oil scrub with vanilla oil drops for fragrance, and then mixed in some vanilla oatmeal baby wash. I posted it on my blog under Handmade Teacher Gifts.
