Recycling Toilet Paper Rolls

All over the internet you see ideas on how to reuse toilet paper rolls.

From Christmas crackers...

to cord wrapper things...

to seed starters...

to wall art...

to crafts.

All of them are great ideas, but none of them really appealed to me to actually put the effort in to try.

Then I saw these ideas popping up....

Pillow boxes!!

I love the idea of making them!

Not all of these pictures are actually made from empty toilet paper rolls, but why couldn't you use them as inspiration?

source

I really want to make some....but I'm already a qualifier for "Hoarders - The Light Version" (if there was a light version).

Besides...what would I do with a bunch of pillow boxes anyways?

Everytime I'm in the washroom now, I find myself staring at the toilet paper roll trying to figure out what I could do with some pillow boxes.
source

I really don't have the time to be making them anyways.  My list is getting longer...not shorter...I'm so far behind on my DIY projects.

BUT (there's always a but) if any of my bride friends (that's you Chels, Kerry and Heather) need some made (just an idea) I would LOVE to help!

Just saying.

I was just (literally 5 minutes ago) trying to figure out what to do with all these stupid tp rolls we have! wow!! my husband ad children have yet to learn that they are supposed to go in that neat little thing next to the toilet also known as a garbage can lol. for some reason they stack up on the bathroom counter...which is farther away and more work hm..... goofy kids... I love the pillow boxes, maybe they could be gift card holders??

lol...I have to say...when I was taking my Early Childhood training we were told NOT to use TP roles anymore for crafts as it's pretty unhygienic...and when you think about the little hands that wipe themelves and then grab some more TP because they didn't quite finish the job the first time...well, let's just say I don't think I'd want that same roll to be hanging on my wall or holding a gift:) Just my opinion though!

good point Rachelle! is it still unhygienic if you actually have it on the roll though because then hands shouldn't be touching that cardboard part? wouldn't they only be touching the toilet paper? i can see if your roll is just sitting out and you have to grab it...

This is brilliant!! I love this and can't wait to start saving toilet paper rolls! Thanks :)

Ok,why not use paper towel rolls and cut them the same length as the tp rolls? :)

I hope you don't mind if I re-post these fabulous and extraordinarily creative ways to reuse on my blog, Grass Roots! I'm always looking to share ways to be realistically green with everyday items and it doesn't get more everyday than a toilet paper roll!

I could think of several uses for them: Hold wrapped candies for Valentine's Day or Halloween, wrap jewelry for those who do that craft, when gifting anything small like ear buds, hair ribbons, barrettes, elastic bands, or headbands. If you made some slightly larger ones they could be used for brownies or cookies. Put some hot chocolate mix and some mini marshmallows in a plastic snack bag wrap in the pillow and stick in a mug for a cute favor for kids or adults at a holiday party.
I am saving my empty rolls to sort and store all the spare electronic cords we seem to have collected. I often find my self wondering what exactly that cord goes to.

For those saved wine and champayne corks. Glue them all together in as big a square as you want and use it for a postit board. Really cute and useful.

Some excellent ideas here I don’t have a news blog as such but there are some great tips that I plan to use.

If you don't think the TP rolls are sanitary enough, would paper towel rolls cut in half work the same way? I think they would!

These are great recycling ideas for our empty toilet paper rolls. All these craft works are indeed very lovely. Thanks for sharing.

I know I'm late to see this on your blog, but I just thought I'd add this for future readers...

Worried about the possibility of your TP rolls being contaminated from hanging around your bathroom? Pop them in a 375 degree oven for six minutes. That should take care of the germs. The TP rolls might discolor slightly, but they will still be usable.

I've seen a lot of comments on blogs about TP and paper towel rolls being unsanitary, so I like to add this comment wherever I can.

Love your ideas!

Just responding to the paste-in below (from above...), I just can't wait to get the Christmas Crackers gift (top of page) from anybody I know...it goes straight in the trash. Ain't no way I'm eating nothing from a container so close to the toilet. For those who can't think of when fecal-particled hands would touch the cardboard roll, be more imaginative...Is it true that EVERY time the TP roll is empty and gets changed in your house, somebody with clean hands does it? And does it happen before the toilet is ever flushed again? Come on. I don't want that crap (don't pardon the pun!), and dried toilet water droplets, to be a permanent part of something encasing anything I use, or eat. The only thing I can think to use them for is pooper scoopers outside, with the pet. Just put an end to using the stupid things, throw them away with all the other biological waste, and make a life with something more appropriate, please.

Well, I absolutely love the idea of the tp roll pillow boxes and have quite a few saved ready to use. I suppose throwing them in the oven to kill if any germs for 6 min should be sufficient enough. we are not going to die by handling these little boxes. If you really want to put anything edible inside I suggest a craft ziplock bag. wrapping the box in paper and decorating. no need to touch the actual tp roll once received as a gift. Anyway, I love it. I will do it as party favours and anyone who does not like can simply throw it away. happy crafting.

Toilet paper rolls have poop matter all over them after sitting in your bathroom for a week!!!!! Do what you want, but I would think DON'T MAKE TOYS FOR BABYS, AS SOME PEOPLE ARE DOING. Some things should be thrown away and this is one!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Gross!!! Watch myth busters and see that your entire bathroom contents sitting out exposed contains fecal matter!! How often do you disinfectant the spring loaded roll holder and how often has it say without a roll of tp on it, collecting bacteria!!!!

Nice I also share with you something hope this helpful for you my friends. If you live in the US, BoxCycle is a great place to list boxes for sale and purchase used boxes. The company does a lot of the selling for you and from the reviews I've read, this is a great start-up that will go far. Check it out thanks.

I'm an Early Childhood educator and yes I cringe at the thought of recycling tp rolls, but we buy craft rolls, PRE toilet paper! Now I'm excited to make some cute packaging for mother's day gifts! Thank you!!
