If You Build It, They Will Come

I tried to find a youtube clip to reference that quote, but due to lack of sleep, being a slight underachiever and having a side of lazy going on, I couldn't find it.

Remember that Sex and the City episode when Miranda got new bedding and Carrie was helping her make her bed?  Miranda was talking about bringing some good vibe into her room or something like that, and Carrie goes "If you build it, they will come".

Yes...I know that quote isn't originally from that show, however, since I'm Carrie Bradshaw I choose to quote her or reference Sex and the City as much as possible.

Where was I going with this post?

Oh yes...Bedroom.  Building it.

I've only been promising this post for the past decade or so.

Here's the final product...

A little before/after shot for you...

The pink room were pictures I took back in 2007 when we were just looking at the house, before we bought it....

We painted it brown when we moved in...

....back when I felt Ikea was the best place on earth for ALL home decor .....

Then something magical happened.

I learned to decorate and how to create beautiful spaces on a budget.

I also realized as a newly single woman, I needed my bedroom to be my space...my escape...all me and only me.

I have always loved Maya Angelou's poem "Phenomenal Woman".  When a friend was going through a bad divorce many years ago, I gave her this poem.  Every woman needs to read it daily and use it as their mantra.  I love waking up to it on my wall.

I only put my favorite verse up.  It's a much longer poem, so go take a moment to read it and love it.

I will post a tutorial sometime soon on how I did this on my wall for free.

My nightstands...

Again...made over lamps and nighstands.  Tutorials to follow.

This was almost the death of me, but I'm so glad I stuck to it...I love it.  This will be another "how to" post eventually.

My special retreat....

Field of Dreams. Nice work- it's very clean and warm. Something about the stark branches in the corner is really striking to me.

Finally! Lisa, it looks great :)

The quote just pops against that dark wall. The tables are so creative.

It seems so 'you' :)

Love it!
